February 20th – 22nd saw the 2025 State Commercial Dairy Heifer Show in Perry, Georgia. On the 20th, 211 heifers weighed in with 188 exhibitors showing. Later in the day the annual Dress-A-Cow costume contest and a fitting contest teams of three were held. Showmanship was all day with students between 4th and 12th grades competing by grade. And weight classes were on the 22nd, with heifers ranging in weight from 250 – 840 pounds.
Shawn Nehls served as judge both days. He grew up on his family’s Wisconsin Holstein farm. He’s raised many Holstein, Jersey and Brown Swiss All-American nominations. In 2019 Shawn and his colleagues had the Intermediate Champion at the World Dairy Expo. His Holstein herd was ranked national for BAA on herds of 120-249 in 2022. We appreciated Shawn’s time and coming down to Georgia, especially as he worked and talked with the youth.
The results from the show are below. Congratulations to all who participated and we hope to see you next year!
