Anna Sneed has developed a passion for the dairy industry through her involvement in showing, dairy judging, quiz bowl, and leadership opportunities. A junior at Jones County High School, Anna currently serves as Vice President of the Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation Junior Board and has been actively showing dairy cattle for the past three years. Her favorite part of the dairy industry is showing, which she says has taught her valuable life lessons, helped her gain confidence, and introduced her to lifelong friendships within the dairy community.
Anna has also competed in 4-H dairy heifer record books, dairy judging, and dairy quiz bowl, earning High Overall Individual in dairy judging and achieving Master 4-H status, an honor that will be recognized at 4-H State Congress. In addition to showing, judging and quiz bowl, Anna completed a Georgia 4-H project achievement in dairy focusing on pasteurization. A fun fact about Ann is that she was part of a winning team at the Sunbelt Ag Expo for a milking competition.
One of Anna’s proudest dairy moments came at her most recent county show, where she earned first place in showmanship. During the competition, dairy exhibitors who won their class had to transition to showing a beef heifer, with finalists drawing numbers to determine which animal they would show in the final drive. Anna recalls being extremely nervous as she entered the ring, but when the judge shook her hand as the winner, her nerves quickly turned into excitement.
Through her dairy experiences, Anna has learned the importance of always being willing to lend a hand to others and hopes younger exhibitors will discover the many opportunities and supportive community the dairy industry provides. She believes dairy youth activities help teach important life skills including responsibility, hard work, patience, diligence, and time management.
Outside of the dairy industry, Anna stays involved in a variety of agricultural activities, including participating in livestock judging. When she is not working with cattle, Anna enjoys hunting, fishing, and competing on her 4-H shotgun team. This year, she was awarded Jones County 4-H'er of the year. a well-deserved title for the highly involved eleventh grader. After high school, she plans to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College to pursue a career as an agriculture teacher or 4-H Extension Agent.
