Meet Junior Board Officer Laurel Christopher! Another great addition to our team!

Hello, my name is Laurel Christopher. I am in the ninth grade at White County High School and this is my fourth year showing commercial dairy heifers. In addition to dairy, I also show registered American Quarter horses.

For as long as I can remember, I was in the saddle and lived for days in the show ring. That intense adrenaline and the uncomfortable show clothing on a cold morning are feelings I live for. So when I was presented with the opportunity to show something else, I jumped in with both feet and never looked back.

When I started, I had no idea what to do or how livestock shows worked. However, after several years of experience and lots of help from fellow competitors, I was blessed to win showmanship at the state show with my dairy heifer.

My involvement in the show ring and with FFA has led to many opportunities and challenging competitions. In the past several years, I have competed in dairy judging, livestock judging, veterinary science, public speaking, and several other career development events. Additionally, I have also started showing lambs through my chapter. However, all of these competitions aren’t even the best part of these programs. The best parts are the people I have met and the friendships I have gained.

When I began showing in the sixth grade, I had no idea of all the amazing people I would meet and the memories I would make. This experience has allowed me to meet and work with people involved in every aspect of the dairy industry. I am so blessed to have all the help and support of my fellow competitors throughout my time in the arena. As a board member for GDYF, I can not wait to support and encourage all of the members of this organization.
